Rulesets
Normal
Player-versus-player combat is optional.
PvP
Combat is enabled in contested areas. New characters face temporary faction-balancing limits; characters use one faction per account.
Roleplay
Roleplay ruleset for character-driven play.
Battleground matchmaking
Battlegrounds can match across rulesets except Hardcore.
Playing with friends
Groups, dungeons, and raids stay within a ruleset. Cross-faction groups are unavailable.

Capture-the-flag battleground.
Arathi Basin
Resource-control battleground.
Alterac Valley
Large-scale battleground.
Darkspear Islands
New 15-versus-15 battleground with control points in an Arathi Basin-style format.
Queue and marks
Queue through a Battlemaster or location portal. Community guide reports three marks for a win and one for a loss; marks buy gear and grant experience and reputation.

Points and rank rewards
Rank points and honor
Rank Points advance through 14 ranks under a rising weekly cap, reported as 24,750 at rank 14. Honor Points buy gear. Rare PvP gear has no rank requirement; ranked upgrade items convert it to Epic quality.
Ranks 1–4
Rank 1 tabard; rank 2 insignia; rank 3 cloak; rank 4 necklace.
Ranks 5–8
Rank 5 combat potions; rank 6 elite-faction tabard; rank 7 battlestandard; rank 8 wrist and belt seals.
Ranks 9–12
Rank 9 feet; rank 10 hands; rank 11 Black War Mounts; rank 12 shoulders and legs.
Ranks 13–14
Rank 13 head and chest; rank 14 Epic PvP weapons.
